Is Human Touch becoming overlooked in business?

There has been a wall created in a reallocation of in-person contact being replaced by virtual contact through digital and social media platforms.

We want our relationships to have integrity, mutually beneficial outcomes and longevity. However, the digital wall often blocks the ability for these key relationships to blossom.

The experience of human contact invokes a combination of our senses – sight, touch and hearing.

It has been said many times that you can get to know someone more over a long lunch, or a round of golf, than in working virtually with them over a year.

The digital wall promises deep relationships with an audience you could never reach in the past. However, while our network may be larger in number, I would argue the depth and complexity of those relationships is shallower than ever.

We like a comment digitally.

We post a birthday greeting.

We wave at someone digitally.

But we don’t meet as much as we once did.

Researchers are reporting that we have never been more isolated or lonely within the vastness of the global village.

Humans are herd animals and crave human touch – we need it to prosper and be our best.

Get off your keyboard and start booking breakfasts, coffees and lunches.

Invite people to your office, or better still, visit them.

Think about innovative and creative ways in which you can physically be with the important people in your life.

Reach out.

Commit to meet up.

We need you with us.
