Simplicity for Success – Rocks, Riffs & Removes.

I’ve just taken my annual two-day Retreat and it was awesome!

There is something grounding about taking a break to plan the year ahead and stopping to think about what is important to you. So, I set about reflecting on what 2020 could look like if I was life’s puppeteer.

My mindset kept coming back to simplicity.

Making things easier not harder, with less complexity and noise.

Strategically I like to look at three timeframes – 90 Day Plan, Annual Plan & Medium-Term Plan (3-5 years).

Keeping strategy simple, I split my focus into sections including:

·         Family & Friends

·         Fitness & physical health

·         Mental health

·         Core business

·         Projects

·         Top 5 Goals

Starting with the ‘Rocks’, I document the non-negotiable actions and disciplines I will commit to. These are the things that get scheduled first and just must happen. For example, stretching, affirmations and meditation.

Next I added some new ‘riffs’ to my plan that enhance my existing activities or introduce new opportunities. For example, I have introduced fortnightly ‘Date Night’ with my wife rotating with fortnightly dinners with old friends.

And finally, with a hat tip to minimalism, I reviewed what I could remove. This included activities that no longer brought me results or happiness. For example, reducing email volume and social media access.

The Retreat delivered six months of thinking in just two days and the takeaways were enormous.

Adopting the theme ‘Simplicity for Success’ is what I aim to carry forward into 2020.

I implore you as a Business Owner to take time out of your schedule for a Retreat and stop to workshop what you really want to do personally and in business this year.

Simplicity for Success.
