Using Counter Intuitive Sources for Content Creation

Content creation challenges us.

Regardless of background, most business owners struggle to consistently produce high quality content.

Blogs, videos and social media posts must be drafted.

Books, articles and white papers must be written.

Talks and presentations need to be crafted,

But we always have blocks to creating content.

We wait for the muse to visit, the inspiration to come.

The deadline is looming.

As we wait for inspiration.

Our desk fills up with empty coffee cups.

The page is blank in front of us.

The cursor blinks on the laptop screen.

And then…. Nothing.

The single greatest disrupter to this may seem counter intuitive.

Move away from the desk.

Close the laptop.

Get out of the office.

We do most of our traditional work at our desk using primarily the left brain. Our left brain attends to our logical, analytical and operational work.

Content creation is undertaken by our right brain. Our right brain uses visual imagery, creativity and emotional processing.

To help me tap into my right brain, I introduce a range of activities and environments to stimulate flow for content creation including:

  • Walking around parks and gardens

  • Exercise

  • Listening to thought-leading podcasts

  • Reading blogs and non-fiction books

  • Breakfasts, lunches and dinners with interesting thinkers covering diverse topics

  • Visiting coffee shops to ponder ideas

  • Daydreaming

  • Meditating

  • Networking events to meet new people and exchange ideas

  • Attending a movie off-peak by myself

  • Taking a solo retreat

The trick is to put yourself in a different environment that promotes a different way of thinking.

Content creation is paramount in the digital world.

It is unavoidable. Get comfortable being uncomfortable.

Lean in.

Your best ideas are meritorious.

To communicate with the universe, you must broadcast your ideas.

Content is King.

Get out of the office.

Change the environment.

Change your thinking.

Create.
